St Trinians World

St. Trinian's World
1954-2009

St Trinian’s that most British of comedy films is
deeply rooted in the culture of Britain. The books and films were based on a series of cartoons Dreamed up by British cartoonist Ronald Searle. The ladies of St Trinians vary between sharp, sly, sexy and brutish with many being well armed with hockey sticks and other assorted scholarly weapons whilst still others were armed with sexy stockings and suspenders and the skimpiest of school uniforms. The uniforms on some of the girls were modified to show a little more leg and a little more cleavage than English public schools, like Rodean, would feel appropriate. While in Searle's Cartoons the sixth forum girls did not appear they are solely a creation of the British film industry, The wearing of stockings and suspenders, Smoking and drinking among the girls was de rigueur and the staff left something to be desired. Low the practise of smoking in the remake is strictly forbidden for the girls to do.
St Trinians is believed to be named after a school in Edinburgh, Scotland which opened in 1922 under the tutelage of one, Miss C. Fraser Lee, the school being called St Trinian's. The ethos employed by the school was one of self discipline rather than teacher imposed discipline, the ‘Dalton system of education’, a potentially dangerous concoction. The first St Trinian’s film came in 1954 and was soon followed by several others featuring great British actors such as Alastair Sim, dressed as the female headmistress ‘Miss Millicent Fritton’, George Cole as the oily ‘Flash Harry’ and Joyce Grenfell as Sgt Ruby Gates. Miss Fritton’s belief was… “In other schools girls are sent out quite unprepared into a merciless world, but when our girls leave here, it is the merciless world which has to be prepared.” Following the success of the 2007 St Trinian's film.,St Trinian's The Legend of Fritton's Gold will be release in 2009.
